The Homeless Education department or McKinney-Vento Program (MVP) serves 6,000-7,000 students identified as homeless each year. The team works to eliminate barriers for students by creating stability in schools when they may not have it at home.
Donations provided to the MVP team, allow students like Christopher to have a backpack, school supplies, clothing and a gift at the holidays. It also allows families like the Rosados to receive a grocery gift card when they are lacking basic food items as they move into a new hotel or a gas gift card to support students and families attending school events.
The MVP team also provides annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors to support the cost of fees and books as they transition into post-secondary education.
Special projects and events also rotate within the program. One current project is the Sleep Wellness Initiative. Funds donated specifically to this project will support the purchase of blankets, pillows, sheets, and pajamas for students experiencing homelessness.
Our district would not be able to provide the resources and supports mentioned above without the generous financial donations of people like you. Every dollar goes directly to serving students in homelessness and their families. Thank you for your support of our program.
