The Spirit of Excellence (SOE) Award ceremony is held annually to recognize ELL students who have demonstrated great efforts to reach outstanding academic success and may have overcome personal, economic, or cultural obstacles. Staff members and a principal at each level (one elementary, one middle, and one high) who work with ELLs and go the extra mile to make a significant impact in ELL students’ academic achievement and English language acquisition, along with outreach to ELL families, can also earn this award. A team of district staff and members of the District Multilingual Parent Leadership Council anonymously select winners from the nominations submitted by each school. The event will be held in conjunction with the District Multilingual Parent Leadership Informational Fair on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Colonial High School’s main campus. SOE winners receive a trophy, and gifts such as books, and other educational materials donated by community partners. Winners and their guests also receive dinner provided by sponsors from throughout the community.
