About Carmen Mendez

Carmen, born and raised in Puerto Rico, USA, earned her BA in ESOL from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus, in 1990. While pursuing her degree, she worked as a college tutor for freshmen students. Following graduation, she dedicated nine years to teaching ESOL in Puerto Rico’s public-school system, specializing in secondary education and GED programs for adults in night schools.

In 2001, Carmen relocated to Florida, where she earned an AA as a Legal Assistant from City College University and worked as a Paralegal Assistant for four years at a Family and Immigration Law firm. Her “go-getter” spirit led her into the medical field, where she served as an administrative assistant for 13 years in an outpatient surgical center in Orlando.

Carmen has also served as a church and community volunteer for more than 20 years as an Officer within the Executive Board of her local church, dedicating years to supporting the community and shaping the character of teenagers and young adults under her and her husband’s leadership.

Since April 2023, Carmen has been an Administrative Specialist at the Foundation, supporting the Executive Director, the staff, and the Foundation Board of Directors.  A mother of two young adult ladies, OCPS Alumni, and known for her professionalism and charisma, she enjoys music, nature, and family time.
