Foundation for Orange County Public Schools golf tournament nets more than $122,000 for area schools

ORLANDO, Fla. (9/29/09) – Celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools annual "FORE Our Schools" golf tournament raised more than $122,000 this year for schools and programs in the district. Proceeds from the event, generated through corporate sponsorships and donations, will be used to support Foundation programs that enhance student achievement – such as Read2Succeed (a second-grade reading/mentoring program) and Middle School Kids (which provides LifeSkills curriculum for middle schoolers in the district) -- as well as provide special opportunities to meet in-classroom needs. Over the ten years the golf tournament has been held, the Foundation has raised nearly $1 million.

"While we’re proud to help literally build our community through our work, it is vital that our commitment to Orlando and Orange County go beyond just the job we do," said Randy Bernard, Senior Vice President of Skanska USA Building Inc. in Orlando and Foundation for Orange County Public Schools board member.

"FORE Our Schools is the singular fundraising event that we annually host," added Foundation Executive Director Craig Evans. "The corporate support and donations are invaluable and enable us to impact the success of Orange County’s public school teachers and students."

The tournament, which was held on September 18th at ChampionsGate Golf Resort, attracted over 200 players. Skanska/JBC was the title sponsor, and presenting sponsors were Everest University and The Morganti Group. More than 70 local companies supported the tournament at various levels, from meal and beverage cart sponsors to corporate and hole sponsors. Eric Dodson, Vice President Educational Facilities for McCree, Inc, and member of the Foundation Board and Executive Committee, chaired the event committee.
